SSAFE @ Leeds University Union

SSAFE started in 2021 as a society at Leeds University Union. Since then, it has become a well loved group by Leeds students.

Tea and Talks

Our tea and talks are 2 hour peer support sessions for students in Leeds. With one every fortnight at the Leeds University Union, each session has a different theme in order to cover different topics throughout the year.

Themes in the past have included:

  • Subject Specific Sessions (STEM, Sociology etc.)

  • Stigma surrounding mental health

  • Neurodivergence

  • Activism Fatigue

  • Doom Scrolling

  • More!

These sessions are free to attend, with tea and biscuits provided! For information about our upcoming sessions, please see our Instagram

Social Media

We pride ourselves on ensuring that our Instagram page is a hub of resources and support for a variety of issues that affect students.

So far, this has included information on topics such as world mental health day and taking time for your health around your studies.

Additionally, we have started a blog as another form of campaigning which we are currently posting on engage (the Leeds University Union’s internal website) and will soon be posting to our website!

Finally, we have worked with the Leeds Student Radio to communicate well-being tips through their Saturday radio show.

Wellbeing Events

Throughout the year, we run a lot of fun events for students to attend and socialise, all of which encourage students to take time away from their studies to relax.

Our biggest events are our crafting events as it is a fun and easy way to socialise and also get information regarding wellbeing to a wider audience.

A lot of our craft events have an idea around kindness and acting like a kid again, which will help students differentiate their stressful studies to their wellbeing down-time.
